My Recent Trip to the Local Discount Store...

For those who are wondering:

I was in the local discount store yesterday (K-Sears) and came across the following new releases.

On the DVD side of things:  "Family Feud", "The Price Is Right" and "Name That Tune".

I know that there has been some discussion of the Goodson-Todman Classics, but I have not heard anything about NTT.  I wound up buying TPIR as part of my 2nd Anniversary gift for my wife (who made it to Contestant's Row while on our honeymoon).

Based on the few times we played, the graphics are awesome.  However, we did have some glitches -- more than some other DVD games I have played in the past.  One time, we could not do anything with our remotes during the entire Showcase round.  We have already seen prize duplications and my biggest complaint is that you have to be quick if you are keeping a running total on cash & gifts you won as there are times the price revealings go by too quick.


And I have given up on trying to play PL!NKO, as I tried on 5 different occasions to get to the part where I drop the chips down the board, only to get to hear Todd Newton say the "Now you're gonna play Plinko" over and over and over again.

Other TPIR DVD Q's.

How many different announcers are on this DVD?   So far, I have heard Todd Newton (The "Official" Host), Rod Roddy, Burton Richardson and Randy West.  But I thought I had heard a couple more.

Anybody else have a large number of glitches?  

Any other positive or negative feedback on not only TPIR, but FF & NTT?


Moving on to the old-fashioned board game category, "Can You Beat Ken Jennings" is now out in stores.  Didn't have much time to take a look at it, but if anyone else has any feedback on this one, feel free to buzz in.

Many of the sub-announcers are in the game, Don Bishop, Art Sanders, Daniel Rosen (sadly).

One oddity I found is that for some games, it's impossible to keep track of your pricing game winnings, because they never tell you the value of the prize. The instruction booklet offers no help either.

The varying sound levels and the anti-climactic moments in the game kind of take the "explosive punch" that the actual show has. Sometimes with a win, we'll just hear a ding, some light applause and no theme. Then 5 seconds later, Todd will come on saying that we've won. Thanks for the info...

The graphics are very nice, and this is overall a neat item to have. Bring it out about once a month with some family and friends and you'll probably get a kick out of it.

The Feud DVD is decent. The punchiness and fast-action of the game make-up for the fact that it's not JUST like the real show, format-wise. This is one of the few practical party DVD games I've seen around. It's coming down in price as well, and I saw it at a local Toys R' Us for around $17.99 the other day. Overall, a nice adaptation.

Have to agree with Doug on the whole anticlimatic wins. I did a largely forgettable write-up on the TPIR DVD...only info I don't mention is that I got it at K-Mart last week for little over $25.

NTT...from what I remember of "Name that Video" which this game seems to be closer to (Bid-a-Vid based on seconds), it's way too easy if you know anything about 80s music. 2 seconds of "Take on Me"s video should identify it for you and so on.
